About Masquerade
It’s not always easy being in the spotlight, so Shaun has donned a colourful disguise! His design is loosely based on a butterfly to symbolise transformation. Historically, masquerade masks were worn at carnivals to hide a person’s identity, and different colours were used to express freedom of speech, without judgement.
Artist Laura Bowden used to love making her own costumes at art college and has always wanted to host a traditional Masquerade Ball. With this in mind, she created this intriguing design for Shaun. Laura lives in Exeter and loves using acrylics, especially bright colours and metallics.
